The Montage Thread

The favourite films thread got me to thinkin’ 'bout one of my favourite narrative devices, the montage. Post 'em if you got 'em.

Let’s start this off right with a classic montage from one of the finest artistic achievements of late 20th century American cinema: The Gimme Some Lovin’ racecar montage from Days of Thunder.

Posting this here because it blew my mind at the time. It was the first episode of Regular Show I saw and it turned out to be the second to last episode. So meta.

Ebert’s wonderful review is still the final word on the subject.

Surely nothing will ever surpass Rocky IV

TOTAL MONTAGE TIME: 29 minutes and 10 seconds

TOTAL MOVIE RUNNING TIME: 91 minutes and 20 seconds

PERCENTAGE OF ROCKY IV THAT IS MONTAGE: 31.9%

Also, that was some weird fantasy that the Americans are the scrappy underdogs while the Soviets have robots and shit.

Did that guy mention that Rocky IV fucking ruled?

Um hello, what do you think the “31.9% montage” line was trying to say?

The ending montage of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is very emotional and effective (when you’ve seen the film).

That’s a good 'un.

Season 2 opening montage of The Sopranos was when I knew it was going to be great television.

EDIT: I mean, the pixelated tits screamed “peak tv” to me.
